Start a Virtual Assistant Business

There are so many reasons why I started my online marketing business, it’s hard to summarise it into one blog post. However if I had to boil it right down to two words those words would be ‘freedom’ and ‘options’.

I have always had a deep desire to run a successful, online business. For as long as I can remember I wanted to be, and mostly was, self employed and I desired to help people.

The things that are important to me in my life are:

Freedom, travel, quality time to do the things that are important to me and earning good /consistent money.

The things that are important to me are my family, my little dog Rosie, personal growth and development, traveling and taking care of my health through nourishing food and exercise.

The way I see it we only get a short time here in this life and I came to the realisation that how I spend every moment is important to me! Therefor I was not willing to spend all my time working at a job I didn’t love.

While I was traveling I discovered that actually I need very little to live and enjoy myself in terms of material things. This was a revelation because it opened my mind to the idea that we don’t have to work all the hours under the sun just to buy more stuff, just because that is the status quo.

Still at that point I had a lot of consumer debt from my previous lifestyle and I began to realise what a prison debt really is. I resolved to get debt free.

I took a job, totally committed to paying off my debt fast, and despite my best efforts it became apparent to me after just 6 months that I am simply not employee material.

The 9-5 hours, and being tied to a desk felt stifling to me and had a dramatic and negative effect on my health and wellbeing.

It simply wasn’t working for me.

I began to think about how I could grow a freelance business on the side. Luckily the universe gave me a little ‘prompt’ in the form of a friend asking if I knew of anyone who would like to be a VA to an entrepreneur friend of hers. I said ‘Yes, ME!’

That was my first client…

I was concerned that I would not be able to earn enough money through freelancing. I had this belief that it was either freedom or money, I didn’t think I would be able to have both, at least not very quickly.

As paying off debt was my major goal for the year, and I desperately wanted to leave my job and go freelance, I worried that I would not be able to do both! Nothing could have been further from the truth.

Within 1 month of starting my freelance business I replaced my income, then I doubled it!

Now it’s important to say that I am still right at the beginning of my freelance business, so I have yet to prove to myself that I can sustain this level of income, however I am committed to doing so and have a deep belief that I can!

I think it is also important to share that I have several years of internet marketing experience behind me as well a couple of years running an online coaching / writing business while I was traveling, so I am not brand new to the world of online business. I had connections in the industry and experience.

So now I am absolutely overjoyed to be both freelance and on my path to financial freedom. I get to spend more time with my dog and I get to take care of my health in ways that simple weren’t possible when I was working.

It really is a dream come true for me. Because all I need to run my business is my laptop and an internet connection, this means I am location independent too, so there is certainly more travel on the horizon!

I’m very grateful to be living in a time when this is possible!
